  DETAILS   The Spanish physiotherapy association is the only organisation in Spain which is concerned with all physiotherapy professional matters. The Spanish physiotherapy association has four staff employees and a full time employed managing director. The association holds regular executive meetings (meeting period June to December) and furthers liasions with other health care professions and authorities.

Physiotherapy Education
  INFORMATION AND NUMBERS   The Spanish association has their own education department. There are 35 physiotherapy schools in the country graduating about 3000 students per year. Physiotherapy education in Spain is a 3-year (2.100 hrs) course diploma that allows for postgraduate courses. Physiotherapists are involved in both teaching and research. Spain has recognition of physiotherapy specialists.

Status of profession
  TITLE AND REGULATIONS ON THE PROFESSION   Professional Title/ Qualification: Diplomatura Universitaria The title and the professional activity is protected by the state. The rules of professional conduct are determined directly by the state through national legislation. The physiotherapist must be state registrated and obtain a licence to practice. Spain has established a code of ethics for physiotherapists. The national authority responsible for the physiotherapy profession in Spain is "Ministerio de Educacion, Cultura y Deporte". There is a shortage of employment opportunities for physiotherapists in the country.

Practice of physiotherapy
  INSURANCE AND PRACTICE REGULATIONS   The physiotherapy services in Spain are determined by the profession. The physiotherapist determines the clinical intervention of physiotherapy him/herself. Spain offers both public and private physiotherapy services. The insurance cover for physiotherapy is combined between the national health care system and private insurances.

Twinning
  The Spanish association has established a twinning program with Romania (Europe) Yearly costs are not estimated and no funding has been obtained for the twinning activities. The Spanish association herewith announces its wish to establish twinning programs with other member countries.
