| DETAILS | The Bulgarian Physiotherapy Association has its own headquarter where a member of the Executive Committee is doing voluntary services. The headquarter has therefore no staff employees and no employed managing director. The association holds regular executive meetings with a meeting period of 2-3 months and furthers liasions with other health care professions and authorities. According to the Bulgarian legislation professional organisations have no right to involve in trade union activities, but BAKR is an associate member of the Federation of Trade Unions in Health Care. | ||||||||||

Physiotherapy Education |

| INFORMATION AND NUMBERS | The Bulgarian association has an education department. There are 3 schools at university level and 3 colleges which all together graduates 200 students per year: 100 at universities and 100 at colleges. The university training goes on for 4 years (3.750 hrs) and the college training for 3 years (3.900 hrs). The physiotherapy qualification leads to an academic degree (BSc in Physiotherapy) and a Diploma. Studies allow for postgraduate education. Physiotherapists are involved in both teaching and research. There is recognition of physiotherapy specialists. | ||||||||||

| TITLE AND REGULATIONS ON THE PROFESSION | Professional Title/ Qualification: Kinesitherapist (for university graduates) Rehabilitator (for college graduates) The Bulgarian state does not protect the title or the professional activity, and there are no official rules of professional conduct or other state legislations. Bulgaria does not require a registration or licence to practice. However, the Bulgarian physiotherapy association has established a code of ethics for physiotherapists. The national authority responsible for the physiotherapy profession in Bulgaria is the Ministry of Health. Employment opportunities may be limited in the country. |

| INSURANCE AND PRACTICE REGULATIONS | The physiotherapy services in Bulgaria are not determined by the profession. The physiotherapist determine the clinical intervention of physiotherapy him/herself. Bulgaria offers both private and public physiotherapy services. The insurance cover for physiotherapy is paid both through the national health care system and privately the patient. | ||||||||||

Twinning |

| The Bulgarian Association has established a twinning program with a Danish association (Denmark) to an estimated yearly cost of 6 - 8.000 Euro. No governmental or EU funding. | |||||||||||
